Introducing
Shodoshima Great Kannon

The world's most beautiful Kannon statue,
a place to walk with prayer
Shodoshima, an island of prayer and tranquility, floats in the Seto Inland Sea.
The Shodoshima Great Kannon (Shiawase Kannon), which stands gently on a quiet hilltop, was erected in 1995 with the support and connections of many people from across Japan, including parishioners of Koyasu Kannon Temple and pilgrims who have made the 88 sacred sites of Shodoshima.
The Shodoshima Great Kannon won the Grand Prix at France's ARC+ Art Competition, and the shining chalk-white Kannon statue has been described as "the most beautiful in the world."

"It seems that if you pray to this temple, you will be blessed with happiness."
Such heartwarming rumors spread, and before long, the Kannon statue became affectionately known as the "Happy Kannon."
Today, many people are drawn by this name and visit to offer their prayers and gratitude.

Enshrined within the womb of Kannon are approximately 14,000 Buddha statues (Womb Buddhas),each one filled with prayers, wishes and memorial services.
Walking through the quiet womb, you are enveloped in a deep sense of security, as if you are being watched over by the Buddhas.

And at the top,the sacred tooth relic of the Buddha, shared with us from Sri Lanka's Temple of the Sacred Tooth, is enshrined.
Considered an incarnation of the Buddha himself, it is an exceedingly precious holy relic.
In this special place, a moment spent quietly joining your hands in prayer
will surely become an irreplaceable anchor.
In 2025, Shodoshima Great Kannon will celebrate the 30th anniversary of its consecration.
With the same gaze, we will continue to quietly pray for the happiness and peace of all people.
